Operating Your Bed
VERTICAL / Horizontal MURPHY BED OPERATION
All of our vertical murphy beds operate the same. The door and/or drawer fronts on the face are false, and merely for decoration so they do not open or close. The entire bed face comes down by grabbing and pulling on the handles; and in most cases, the bed can easily be opened with one hand. The bed is installed by attaching it to your wall (at the top,) which keeps it from moving forward, backward or side to side. When correctly attached to your wall, the murphy bed is as solid as the wall construction. The steps below illustrate how easy it is to operate our beds!
STEP 1
To open the bed, begin by grabbing and pulling on the handles towards the top of the bed. (The handles on the face of the bed are also used to decorate the faux doors/drawers and help enhance the appearance; so placement will vary on each style.)
STEP 2
Our murphy beds use a pneumatic piston system that allows you to operate the bed with a nice controlled motion, and little effort. Because the pistons are located near the bottom of the bed, using the handles nearest the top will provide better leverage as you lower the bed.
STEP 3
Once the bed is approximately halfway open, grab one of the steel legs and rotate it towards you to swing it all the way over.
STEP 4
Once the first leg is down, do the same to the leg on the opposite side.
STEP 5
Continue lowering the bed to the ground until the legs rest on the floor.
STEP 6
Your bed is now ready for use!
CLOSING YOUR MURPHY BED
- Pillows must be removed before the bed is closed
- Sheets will need to be tucked in so they do not hang out of the sides
- Blankets can remain on the bed, but will also need to be tucked in
- When the bed face is halfway up, make sure to rotate both legs to the closed position
- At the last few inches of closing the bed face, you will feel the face being drawn into the bed cabinet. Be sure to guide it closed by using the decorative handles on the face of the bed.
